Jockey Shabalala, of Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Dies at Age 62

Sunday February 19, 2006
On February 11, 2006, Jockey Shabalala, brother of Ladysmith Black Mambazo founder Joseph Shabalala, passed away in his hometown of Ladysmith, South Africa. He was with his family at the time.

Jockey was a founding member of the group and toured with them for over 40 years. He gave up touring last year to spend more time at home with his family, but he still performed with the group for shows in South Africa.

Ladysmith Black Mambazo is currently on tour in the U.S. and plan to continue their tour in Jockey's memory. For more information about Jockey, please read the eloquent eulogy on the Ladysmith Black Mambazo Home Page.
