Live Irish Music For St. Patrick's Day

Tuesday March 14, 2006
It's a given that just about every Irish Pub in the U.S. will be featuring an Irish band on Friday, but for some reason, the best-known Irish groups in the world seem to be primarily playing in New York City and (of all places) Wisconsin this year. In NYC, three very different Irish performances will take place: The Chieftains will be playing Carnegie Hall, Celtic Woman will be at Radio City Music Hall and The Pogues will be at The Nokia Theatre at Times Square.

In Wisconsin (I'm really not kidding!), the offerings are running a little more consistently on the traditional side. Flook will be playing in Wausau at The Arts Block, Karan Casey will be playing in Milwaukee at The Irish Cultural and Heritage Center and Solas will be playing in Beloit at Beloit College. Told you I wasn't kidding. As if I'd joke about Wisconsin.

Other live performances to catch (if you can) include Dervish in Cedar Rapids, IA; Cherish The Ladies in Burlington, VT; Grada in Eureka Springs, AR; The Glengarry Bhoys in Chicago, IL; The Saw Doctors in Cleveland, OH and Culann's Hounds in San Francisco, CA.

If you're not in any of these places, I'm quite sure that there's a great Irish concert happening within one hour of you on St. Patrick's Day. If you're dead stuck as to where to go, post in our World Music Forums, let us know where you are, and we'll see if we can't find you a concert to check out! Beannachtaí na Féile Pádraig oraibh! (That means "a blessed St. Patrick's Day to you!")
