Old Town School of Folk Music Spring Classes Open For Registration
Tuesday April 4, 2006
If you live in Chicago, Illinois, or are planning to visit for even a day sometime in the late spring/early summer, check out the Old Town School of Folk Music's late spring lineup of classes and workshops. The Old Town School is the premiere learning facility for ethnic, folk and world music in the United States, and they offer a huge variety of classes for all abilities and ages.
Among the adult classes offered are French Musette Accordion, Intro to Clawhammer Banjo, African Guitar Styles, Delta Blues Fingerstyle Guitar, Intro to Bodhran, Irish Ceili and Set Dances, Various levels of Capoeira, Hula Dancing, Taiko Drums, Intro to Ukulele, Appalachian Gospel Vocals and dozens more.
In town for just a day or weekend, or a local who just wants to try a little something different? Check out the Old Town School's workshops! Learn the basics of Cajun and Zydeco Dancing, Jazz Scatting, Bluegrass Banjo, and more! Workshops are great because they cost less and there's less commitment, so if you discover that you actually don't like the mandolin or tapdancing or blues guitar playing, you're not stuck in a class for 8 weeks.
The Old Town School of Folk Music also offers classes for babies (with Mom's or Dad's help, of course), preschoolers and grade-school aged kids. Teens 13 and up are welcome in adult classes, but there is also a summer camp-like program called Summer Slam available just for teens, as well as a Teen Open Mic on the first Saturday of every month.
Class registration is open now and goes fast, so get it while the gettin's good!
