Montreal Jazz Festival Boasts Great World Music Lineup
Friday June 2, 2006
The Montreal Jazz Festival is one of the most formidable jazz festivals in the world, and among their ever-fantastic roster of jazz and blues musicians (which, this year, includes B.B. King and Bonnie Raitt), are a nice bunch of world musicians. On the roster are Malian African Rock-Pop duo Amadou & Mariam, Guinean kora player Ba Cissoko, Senegalese Afropop superstar Baaba Maal, Brazilian chanteuse Badi Assad, gypsy jazz star Bireli Lagrene, albino Malian singer Salif Keita, Brazilian samba-pop star Seu Jorge, and french composer and musician Yann Tiersen (who wrote the music for the film Amelie).
The festival takes place from June 29 to July 9 at various venues throughout the gorgeous city of Montreal.

Not sure if anyone is a fan in here, by in case you missed it, Salif Keita recently put out a new record that has been generating a lot of press. Billboard called it “… one of the top world music releases of 2006″ and the New York Times said “..Keita’s voice leaps out of every song with tender urgency…”. There is some music on this site (http://www.giantstep.net/releases/1026). I believe he is touring as well. Good to see a world artist making some headway against the Chili Peppers and Idol contestants of the world.
