Warm up Your French With Some French Language World Music
Saturday August 4, 2007
I'm headed off for a three-week whirlwind tour of France, The Netherlands and Denmark this week, and trying to brush up on my language and phrase-skills. I'm a pretty decent French speaker already, but I always like to get myself warmed up before I go. Boring phrasebooks don't do it for me, though; I tend to prefer watching French movies (how convenient that La Vie en Rose and Paris, Je T'aime are both in theatres right now!), reading French poetry, and, above all, listening to French-language music. There's such a wide variety of it, too, since French is spoken in so many different places with rich musical history.
Speaking of musical history, Paris is a hotbed of world music... I look forward to catching some fantastic subway musicians, free outdoor concerts, maybe a late-night Django band, and definitely digging through some great record stores. Any frequent Paris travelers have any great tips as to where a visitor might find world music, live or recorded?
