Martin Scorsese Slated to Direct Bob Marley Documentary
Wednesday February 13, 2008
According to Variety, legendary director Martin Scorsese is going to take on the life story of reggae legend Bob Marley. No complaints here - if Scorsese's excellent (and thorough) documentary about Bob Dylan, No Direction Home is any indication, it's going to be a good one. Marley led one of the more fascinating lives in musical history, and though there are a couple of decent documentaries out there, none have ever been released on a major level to a world audience. Plus, the Marley family has endorsed this one, so it'll (hopefully) be full of great commentary and first-hand accounts of Mr. Bobby's life.

Hmmmm….I would like to see someone a little more contemporary try this project. Sure, Martin Scorsese is a “genius”, but I found The Last Waltz to be a rather conventional documentary on The Band, and No Direction Home was good, but not great. No, I haven’t seen the new Stones movie, Shine a Light, but I have a feeling it’s going to be the same. I’d like to see someone like Julie Taymor give it a shot.
