Polka Music 101

Wednesday March 26, 2008
And now, for your polka trivia of the day: despite rumors to the contrary, Weird Al Yankovic is not the son of (or any relation to) polka legend Frank Yankovic. If this breaks your heart, I'm very sorry. If you'd never heard that rumor, or don't actually know who either or both of those people are, maybe you're just not white and nerdy enough. Sorry, I couldn't resist - I still think that song is really funny. Seriously, though, if your polka knowledge is any sort of limited, maybe it's time you read up on the subject: Polka Music 101

(1) Stella says:

The neat thing about Polkas is that it still crosses over the bounderies of generations … even though it is NOT a mainstream music genre. While I “respect” Weird Al, he’s really not representative of Polkas. One only need to check out PolkaBoy, PolkaFloyd and Jimmy Sturr to see what I mean and where polkas are at today … Polka on! ,
