Our condolences go out to the family and friends of Martin Fay, founding member and former fiddler for traditional Irish music revivalists The Chieftains, who passed away earlier this week. Fay was a classically-trained violinist-turned-fiddler who helped found the band in 1962, and toured the world with them for forty years, until he retired from international touring in 2001/2002. Fay was a great influence on contemporary traditional Irish fiddling, and music in general. Read his obituary from the New York Times: Martin Fay, Fiddler With The Chieftains, Is Dead at 76.
