Loreena McKennitt is an avid researcher of Celtic music and the older styles that inspired it. She frequently travels to lesser-known regions of the world, seeking out the roots of the Scottish and Irish people and their music. She often learns ancient songs, poems or melodies and incorporates them into her songs and albums.
Loreena McKennitt - Personal Life:
Loreena McKennitt generally keeps the details of her personal life relatively private, but in 1998, her fiance was killed in a boating accident, and she subsequently founded a charity for water safety and the funding of water rescue teams. The tragedy deeply affected her, and she did not release an album of new material for the next 8 years, until 2006's An Ancient Muse.
