Rupa and the April Fishes - The Basics:
Rupa and the April Fishes are a San Francisco-based world music band. Blending French cafe music, Latin rhythms, and a vintage cabaret vibe with various world influences, Rupa and the April Fishes hit the world music scene with their 2008 debut CD, eXtraOrdinary rendition (Cumbancha Records), and have spent the last two years wowing audiences across the country with their exciting live shows.
Rupa Marya:
Rupa and the April Fishes is headed up by singer/songwriter Rupa Marya. Born in the United States to Indian parents, Marya lived in San Francisco, India, and Southern France during her childhood. She developed strong views on cultures and how they relate to personal identities, and these views are expressed in many of her song lyrics. She also learned a number of foreign languages along the way, and her lyrics are multilingual. Marya is both a musician and a practicing medical doctor.

2008's eXtraOrdinary rendition (Compare Prices) is the only nationally-released Rupa and the April Fishes recording to date, and a second CD is planned for 2009. Their track "Maintenant" was also featured on the 2008 release Putumayo Presents Acoustic France.
