Slavic Soul Party! - The Basics:
Slavic Soul Party! is a New York City-based world fusion band whose sound is rooted in instrumental Balkan Brass Band music but who also incorporate modern funk elements, gypsy accordion, Latin grooves, and more. They call themselves BalkanSoul GypsyFunk, which is probably as succinct as one could possibly get when describing these genre-jumpers.
Slavic Soul Party! has been playing and recording together for well over a decade, bringing their unique brand of dance-friendly world fusion to audiences around the globe while keeping a solid base in New York City, where they still perform every Tuesday night in the Brooklyn world music club Barbes. Since the club holds about 30 people, and the band is 9 strong plus a bellydancer, it's a tight squeeze, but a vibrant, passionate musical experience -- one that draws die-hard fans back again and again.
