Boukman Eksperyans is a popular mizik rasin (literally, "roots music," blending traditional vodou ceremonial music with modern sounds) group from Haiti. Their performance at Festival International 2011 came just a little over a year after the devastating 2010 earthquake and subsequent ravaging cholera outbreak. Shown here, Mimerose "Manze" Beaubrun is the matriarch of the group, and her commanding stage presence adds a feminine intensity to Boukman Eksperyans's live show.
