Slackness

By Megan Romer, About.com

Definition: Slackness refers to vulgarity and/or profanity when it is used in Jamaican dancehall or reggae music. Slackness is a noun; the adjective form is simply "slack." Slack lyrics can involve crude sexuality, homophobia, misogyny, and violence, though most ethnomusicologists see slackness as a valid (if somewhat disturbing) expression of an oppressed culture. Slackness is seen as direct opposition to the more socially conscious lyrics of artists like Bob Marley
Also Known As: slack (adjective), looseness
