This festival has been running now for over 20 years and has of course undergone changes, but it has been and remains the best I've experienced. (A distant second would be the Festival on the Niger in Segou, Mali.) It is extremely well organized, with most shows free and others at very reasonable prices and venues in many different neighborhoods. Many, many countries are represented, some that one never sees otherwise. My only tiny, tiny complaint is that there are not more traditional groups- most are some kind of fusion, using modern instruments.
Who's the Best Artist/Band You've Seen at the Festival?
TAMBOURS SANS FRONTIERES (I may be prejudiced- it's my husband's band, but they are truly awesome!)
Any Tips for Camping or Lodging at this Festival?
Lodging at all price ranges in Chicago- even the hostel is within walking distance of many of their shows.
Is There Anything you Dislike About this Festival?
Nothing serious- they need a bigger venue for the finale, where you can see several bands on 3 stages in the Cultural Center throughout the evening, all free, but with KILLER LINES!
