Only One Month 'Til the Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival
Monday March 20, 2006
The Spring Shakori Hills GrassRoots Festival is just a month away (April 20-23) and their lineup is looking great. Headlining the festival will be South African jazz trumpeter Hugh Masekela, who has played with such greats as Paul Simon and Louis Armstrong. Also in the "you might have heard of 'em" vein of things are blues rock guitarist Sonny Landreth, festival hosts Donna the Buffalo, Grammy-winning Country Songwriter Jim Lauderdale, and Katherine Whalen, former lead singer of the Squirrel Nut Zippers, with her new band Hooverville.
On the world music side of things are kora player Mamadou Diabate, The Duhks, Carolina Samba School, Cyro Baptista & Beat the Donkey, Elikem African Dance Company, The Red Stick Ramblers, Keith Frank & The Soileau Zydeco Band, Keith Secola & The Wild Band of Indians, The Amateurs Reggae Band, Las Gitanas, West End Mambo, Luminescent Orchestrii, Preston Frank & His Zydeco Family Band, Rajamani, and so much more. The best bands you've never heard of? Most definitely.
